You gave your life to Jesus Christ

"You came down, you looked around and you were not the same after that"
I never realized how boring being home can be sometimes. I just went to the mall to get jeans shorts and I think that is the extent of what I am going to do today. I mean I am going out to dinner with Laura and also doing a bit of espanol work, but for the most part I will be sitting around just kind of doing nothing. I mean this next week I will be busy as hell doing two projects, looking forward to Friday's camping trip/hopefully getting wristbands to meet ben folds and on sunday basically working my ass off doing two papers and a presentation. This could be the calm before the storm or it could just be me being bored, who knows.
I have now decided that yes, I do have a cold. I have been sick for a week but I kinda figured now that it isn't quite going away so I can officially call this mamajammer a cold. Robotrip anyone?
I really hope we get into NY early enough on Friday to get those wristbands, I mean we are going to be there at around 5-5:30 in the morning. It is the best we can do without sleeping outside the Tower Records with the fear of being mugged and killed. I think we can do it, I sure as hell hope we can.

Tell me what you wanna know

Bled White

I'm a color reporter (rose city on the 409)
But the city's been bled white (white city on the yellow line)
And the doctor orders (drinking till he's trashed is just a waste of time)
He drinks all night to take away this curse
But it makes me feel much worse

Bled white

So I wait for the f-train (white city on the yellow line)
And connect through a friend of mine (white city to a friend of mine)
To a yesterdaydream (yesterday a dream was just a waste of time)
'Cause I'll have to be high to track the sunset down
And paint this pailing town

Bled white

So here he comes with a blank _expression
Especially for me 'cause he knowsI feel the same
'Cause happy and sad come in quick succession
I'm never going to become
What you became

Don't you dare disturb me (don't complicate my piece of mind)
While I'm balancing my past (don't complicate my piece of mind)
'Cause you can't help or hurt me (the anger, being mean was just a waste of time)
Like it already has, it may not seem quite right
But I'm not fucked, not quite

Bled white

Bled white

-Elliott Smith

Hey, I got that song stuck in my head and I felt the need to put it in the good ol blog. I think putting lyrics in kinda makes the song get out of your head for a while, seeing just the lyrics without the music. You can just get a feel for what the artist was thinking, what he was trying to say. Music can sometimes get in the way of the the lyrics, or it can boost them. Some people believe that lyrics are secondary to music and that is total bullshit. The ability to craft music and the ability to convey an emotion through the use of words are both integral to a songs makeup. The music to this song are ok, but the lyrics are really what drives it. Elliott Smith writes some damn fine lyrics, some damn sad ones as well. He was a musician in every sense of the word and it is a tragedy how he took his own life before anyone really even knew about his music.

Man, I feel like shit today. Total and utter shit physically and emotionally and I still have so much work to get done. I feel like a bastard in whatever I do now and I can't help it really and I also fell pretty selfish. This just plain old sucks, there I said it. It sucks. If you have any idea what I am talking about, you understand. If not, then don't even ask.

In case you wondered...

"Tell who's the funky dude staring back at me"
Well, I found an article on NYTimes.com that nearly made me wet myself. You ever wonder what is on George Bush's iPod? Well, they found out.
White House Letter: President Bush's iPod
By ELISABETH BUMILLER
Published: April 11, 2005
WASHINGTON:Between his return on Friday from Pope John Paul II's funeral in Rome and his meeting today with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel, President Bush spent an hour and a half on Saturday on an 18-mile mountain bike ride at his Texas ranch. With him, as usual, was his indispensable new exercise toy: an iPod music player loaded with country and popular rock tunes aimed at getting the presidential heart rate up to a chest-pounding 170 beats per minute.Which brings up the inevitable question. What, exactly, is on the First iPod? In an era of celebrity playlists - Tom Brady, the New England Patriots quarterback, recently posted his on the iTunes online music store - what does the presidential selection of downloaded songs tell us about Mr. Bush?First, Mr. Bush's iPod is heavy on traditional country singers like George Jones, Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney. He has selections by Van Morrison, whose "Brown Eyed Girl" is a Bush favorite, and by John Fogerty, most predictably "Centerfield," which was played at Texas Rangers games when Mr. Bush was an owner and is still played at ballparks all over America. ("Oh, put me in coach, I'm ready to play today.")The president also has an eclectic mix of songs downloaded into his iPod from Mark McKinnon, a biking buddy and his chief media strategist during the 2004 campaign. Among them are "Circle Back" by John Hiatt, "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care" by Joni Mitchell and "My Sharona," the 1979 song by the Knack that Joe Levy, a deputy managing editor at Rolling Stone in charge of music coverage, cheerfully branded "suggestive if not outright filthy" in an interview last week.Mr. Bush has had his Apple iPod since July, when he received it from his twin daughters as a birthday gift. He has some 250 songs on it, a paltry number compared to the 10,000 selections it can hold. Mr. Bush, as leader of the free world, does not take the time to download the music himself; that task falls to his personal aide, Blake Gottesman, who buys individual songs and albums, including Mr. Jones's and Mr. Jackson's greatest hits, from the iTunes music store.Mr. Bush uses his iPod chiefly during bike workouts to help him pump up his heartbeat, which he monitors with a wrist strap. The strap also keeps track of calories expended for the intensely weight-focused president, who has recently lost eight pounds after eating a lot of doughnuts during the 2004 campaign. Mr. Bush burned 1,300 calories on his bike ride on Saturday, Mr. McKinnon reported. As for an analysis of Mr. Bush's playlist, Mr. Levy of Rolling Stone started out with this: "One thing that's interesting is that the president likes artists who don't like him."Mr. Levy was referring to Mr. Fogerty, who was part of the anti-Bush "Vote for Change" concert tour across the United States last fall. Mr. McKinnon, who once wrote songs for Kris Kristofferson's music publishing company, responded in an e-mail message that "if any president limited his music selection to pro-establishment musicians, it would be a pretty slim collection."Nonetheless, Mr. McKinnon said that Mr. Bush had not gone so far as to include on his playlist "Fortunate Son," the angry anti-Vietnam war song about who has to go to war that Mr. Fogerty sang when he was with Creedence Clearwater Revival. ("I ain't no senator's son ... Some folks are born silver spoon in hand.") As the son of a two-term congressman and a United States Senate candidate, Mr. Bush won a coveted spot with the Texas Air National Guard to avoid combat in Vietnam.Meanwhile, Mr. Levy sized up the rest of the playlist of the 58-year-old president. "What we're talking about is a lot of great artists from the 60's and 70's and more modern artists who sound like great artists from the 60's and 70's," he said. "This is basically boomer rock 'n' roll and more recent music out of Nashville made for boomers. It's safe, it's reliable, it's loving. What I mean to say is, it's feel-good music. The Sex Pistols it's not."Mr. Jones, Mr. Levy said, was nonetheless an interesting choice. "George Jones is the greatest living singer in country music and a recovering alcoholic who often sings about heartbreak and drinking," he said. "It tells you that the president knows a thing or two about country music and is serious about his love of country music."The songs by Mr. Jackson indicate that the president "has a little bit of a taste for hard core and honky-tonk," Mr. Levy said, adding that both Mr. Jackson and Mr. Jones "are not about cute and pop, and they're not getting by on their looks." And while Mr. Chesney "is about cute and pop and gets by on his looks," Mr. Levy said, "he's also all about serious country music."Mr. McKinnon, who has downloaded "Castanets" by Alejandro Escovedo and "Alive 'N' Kickin' " by Kenny Loggins into Mr. Bush's iPod, said that sometimes a presidential playlist is just a playlist, nothing more."No one should psychoanalyze the song selection," Mr. McKinnon said. "It's music to get over the next hill."

Once there was a way

"Sleep pretty darling, do not cry and I will sing a lullaby"
Ok, it is official, BB King is the fucking man. I didn't know what to expect last night when I went to see BB with John, Ian and Shannon...but man, he was kicking. The opening act was this 14 year old kid who played the blues with a backing band at least 3 times his age, but he was phenomenal for his age. My god, this kid was good...but his vocals were a bit prepubescent, like he can help that. When BB's band came on though, man they were amazing. They did about 3 songs without BB, just kinda having a loose structure of a song with each member doing a solo, most of which kicked ass. His band had a full horn section on top of the average bass, drums, guitar and piano/organ. When he came out, I was a little worried because he couldn't walk that well and sat down the entire concert and had to have his guitar handed to him. My worries were soon calmed though, as he was much more lively than I expected. He was dancing, telling jokes, telling stories upon stories, giving the crowd wisdom, had us sing along to certain parts, had a schtick with his band which was almost like a standup routine and of course he sang and rocked on guitar. His voice has not gone down in quality at all, it still sounds as raw and powerful as it did when he was young. His skills as a guitar player have also not diminished, this guy was the epitomy of a showman...he was just entertaining as hell and it was amazing to see a blues legend live. I came out feeling absolutley blown away, something I definately didn't expect. It is now my duty to get BB on vinyl because I dug his music so much, his band was so damn tight and completely on. The horn section...my god the horn section was cooking and the bass player was beyond words amazing. Ian nearly wet himself during the bass solos they were so good. All I know is, I am so damn glad I went to this thing and anyone that missed it should regret it, it was that good.
On other music news, I am trying to see Ben Folds on April 26th at an in-store performance in NY's own Tower Records. If you are one of the first 500 people to buy his album on that day, you will get a braclet and will be able to come back and see an in-store performance/ meet and greet with the man himself. The only catch? The store opens at 9 AM and we are gonna be there hella early. I think our train from Hamilton leaves at 4:20 AM and yes we are obsessed freaks(myself, erica, her friend and anyone else that wants to come...come on and ask if you wanna come) for going, but I think it is about time I meet Mr.Folds himself and this seems like the best way.
Final music note, I am seeing Ben Folds on May 10th and Weezer on May 11th with an assortment of very nice folks. The Weezer show though is a group rocking affair with the eclectic and wonderful group of Jake, Rachel, Katie, Katie's and my T7 comrade Lemor.
Oh, I also kicked my spanish tests ass.
