Tell me what you wanna know
Bled White
I'm a color reporter (rose city on the 409)
But the city's been bled white (white city on the yellow line)
And the doctor orders (drinking till he's trashed is just a waste of time)
He drinks all night to take away this curse
But it makes me feel much worse
Bled white
So I wait for the f-train (white city on the yellow line)
And connect through a friend of mine (white city to a friend of mine)
To a yesterdaydream (yesterday a dream was just a waste of time)
'Cause I'll have to be high to track the sunset down
And paint this pailing town
Bled white
So here he comes with a blank _expression
Especially for me 'cause he knowsI feel the same
'Cause happy and sad come in quick succession
I'm never going to become
What you became
Don't you dare disturb me (don't complicate my piece of mind)
While I'm balancing my past (don't complicate my piece of mind)
'Cause you can't help or hurt me (the anger, being mean was just a waste of time)
Like it already has, it may not seem quite right
But I'm not fucked, not quite
Bled white
Bled white
-Elliott Smith
Hey, I got that song stuck in my head and I felt the need to put it in the good ol blog. I think putting lyrics in kinda makes the song get out of your head for a while, seeing just the lyrics without the music. You can just get a feel for what the artist was thinking, what he was trying to say. Music can sometimes get in the way of the the lyrics, or it can boost them. Some people believe that lyrics are secondary to music and that is total bullshit. The ability to craft music and the ability to convey an emotion through the use of words are both integral to a songs makeup. The music to this song are ok, but the lyrics are really what drives it. Elliott Smith writes some damn fine lyrics, some damn sad ones as well. He was a musician in every sense of the word and it is a tragedy how he took his own life before anyone really even knew about his music.
Man, I feel like shit today. Total and utter shit physically and emotionally and I still have so much work to get done. I feel like a bastard in whatever I do now and I can't help it really and I also fell pretty selfish. This just plain old sucks, there I said it. It sucks. If you have any idea what I am talking about, you understand. If not, then don't even ask.

Sorry you're feeling badly Brian...
Have you ever listened to anything by Ladysmith Black? I think thats what they are called... its a South African group... what you said about lyrics really reminded me of them. Because their voices sound like musical instruments and I love their music and the feelings they give me, but often times I feel like I could extract so much more meaning if I only knew what they were saying. I definitely agree about the lyrics and the music working together in the song.
